Incompatible behaviors [December 25, 2009] coe_chat [mynameis_violet]  Hi everyone, I was just making a list for myself of "incompatible behaviors," i.e. things you can do that you can't do while eating. This came up in group therapy as a strategy to ease anxiety and avoid bingeing. I thought it might be helpful to post my list here, and maybe others could comment with suggestions and we'd get a whole long list going! ( list of ideas ) My therapist suggested that I make a pact with myself to try at least five of the things on this list when I'm feeling anxious and wanting to binge. The idea is that after trying five things, my anxiety is likely to have subsided and I'll be less likely to binge. The hard part is getting myself to do even one of the things if I'm really upset and feeling the urge to binge, but just having the list ready makes it less likely that I'll engage in full on bingeing behavior. New to the community:) [December 23, 2009] coe_chat [mynameis_violet]  Hey everyone, I'm Violet, I'm 20, and I'm new to this community (and to lj for that matter). I've been struggling with emotional eating for several years and I'm finally really trying to recover. I'll definitely be checking in here quite a bit, mostly reading what you all have to say.
